Social media is a very big part of all of our lives, but especially us teenagers. We are on instagram scrolling everyday, but what we don’t realize is how it affects us. Not only can our self-esteem go down but also our mental health can take a toll on us too, sometimes we even don’t get enough sleep because we are busy scrolling through all our different social media. Us teenagers born into the world of technology have to pay more attention to our mental health, especially us girls, it is so easy to get wrapped up in the “ideal body” young girls are struggling with their body image because social media tells them they need to be a certain size, but we are all different, we will never all look the same. I asked my friend Emily how do you think social media affects your life and how you view yourself, and she said, “social media affects my life because I see what other people’s lives look like and I wish I was them.” We all have different things we aren’t happy with in our lives, and social media highlights those things we don’t have in our minds. Social media also has a problem with bullying others, a lot of people think just because you’re behind a screen you can say whatever you want without it affecting someone else.
