Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee

If you ask people who the greatest in the world is, the obvious answer would be Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali was a world-class boxer, that was born on January 17, 1942, on September 15, 1978, Muhammad Ali wins the World Heavyweight Championship against Leon Spinks for the third time! This achievement was unheard of for this time of boxing, meaning Muhammad Ali was the first to defend his heavyweight title three times.

Muhammad wasn’t born the greatest though, with a birth name of Cassius Clay, after switching to Islam he changed his name to Muhammad Ali. This man won a gold medal at Rome Olympics Games and also debuted his boxing career with only 6 rounds. In his first title fight the heavyweight title. after defeating Sonny Liston in six long rounds he claimed to the audience and the people that “I am the greatest!” He was then labeled as the Heavyweight Champion.

Unfortunately, as Muhammad Ali grew with age his skill and prowess did not. He lost his title to Leon Spinks at Las Vegas in a 15-round split decision, although he did win his title back in a unanimous decision of 15 rounds. In June 1979, Ali announced he was retiring from boxing. He then returned to the sport and decided to do one last match against Larry Holmes, a heavyweight champion. Muhammad Ali was KO’ed in the 11th round. Then he tried another match to not retire on a loss but ended up losing to Trevor Berbick. 1981 the legend finally left the boxing ring and sport altogether, retiring with a record of 56 wins, five losses, and 37 knockouts. He was also revealed to have Parkinson’s disease. Muhammad sadly passed away on June 3, 2016.

Muhammad Ali was a famous boxer in the United States. He was known for his footwork and swift hands, retired with 56 wins and 5 losses. He also has a gold medal in the Olympic games.
