Halloween In Okeechobee

A Halloween Extravaganza is planned Oct. 31 at the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center. At their Sept. 22 meeting, Okeechobee County Commissioners approved the use of the facility at no charge for the free community event, which will be open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Okeechobee and the Law Office of Philip Deberard.

Melissa Jahner from the Rotary Club said Rotary welcomes businesses, organizations, and families to set up booths at the event. Each booth should include a fun game for children to play and candy to hand out. The Children’s Services Council has also provided a grant to help pay for additional candy. Approximately 2,000 children attended the last Halloween Extravaganza.

“Anything we can do to keep our youth off the street and being exposed to what is going on today,” said Commissioner David Hazellief.

Jahner said anyone who wants to have a booth at the event should contact the Okeechobee Rotary Club.
