Brahmans Athletes Starting Strong

   Being a good athlete takes a lot of time and effort. It also takes a lot of dedication to do and maintain. Sacrifices have to be made with your diet, your habits, what you do with your free time, and you have to have a good work ethic.

Good athletes do things such as: 

  • Choose and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a high level of self-motivation.
  • Set high, realistic goals.
  • Deal effectively with people.
  • Use positive self-talk.
  • Use positive mental imagery.
  • Manage anxiety effectively.
  • Manage their emotions effectively.

Athletes at Okeechobee have intense workout routines. Depending on their position in whatever sport they play, they target specific muscle groups that they can benefit from. They’ll do various intense workouts throughout the year to stay in shape and build muscle. The main weightlifting exercises athletes do are squats, bench presses, power cleans, and deadlifting. The main cardio exercises are gassers, jumping jacks, push-ups, cone drills, box jumps, and laps.

Another thing here at Okeechobee is that football student-athletes have to keep up with their grades. If an athlete misses one assignment for the week of a game, they get benched for a quarter, two zeros, the first half you’re benched, and if you have three missing assignments you don’t play the game. This allows the student-athletes to stay on top of their grades and make sure that they are doing well in school.
