This Friday one hundred and one years ago, something significant happened on September 22, 1862. President Abraham Lincoln issued the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation, officially Proclamation 95, was a presidential proclamation and executive order issued by United States President Abraham Lincoln. This proclamation declared “that all persons held as slaves”(within the rebellious states) “are, and henceforward shall be free”. Lincoln said all this while in the third year of the Civil War. President Lincoln’s main goal in fighting the Civil War was to stop slavery from spreading and unite the nation again. The Emancipation Proclamation changed the Civil War into a fight for freedom and helped the Union a lot because the South lost their help from Britain and other European countries. This changed the United States to stop slavery in most parts, which led to the end of slavery. This helps us here now one hundred and one years later in Okeechobee. “I’m very grateful that President Lincoln didn’t quit his fight for the Civil War, and his beliefs.” Adam Burks said.

This is a Civil War painting. This painting shows them fighting for their rights and Lincoln’s beliefs.
