Mason Bellamy: What is your name and how old are you?
GS: Garth Striebel 31
MB:What science classes do you teach
GS: Physical Science and Biology 1
MB: Why did you decide to teach science
GS: Science is a field that greatly interests me and I want to share that love with my students.
MB: How have you worked with students who perform below grade level?
GS: Giving them every means to success is key, the rest is up to them and want it.
MB: What techniques do you use to keep students actively involved and motivated during a lesson?
GS: With science you have notes like any other class, but trying to get hands-on activities and labs is important.
MB: What was your greatest challenge in student teaching? How did you resolve it?
GS: Student teaching we had to deliver lessons to a class. It was hard to get a class to act and react when you don’t have that relationship with the students. I just created a fun lesson to get the students engaged and it solved the awkwardness of teaching a class you didn’t know or know you.
MB: Describe the process you would use in responding to a student who was disrupting the class.
GS: It depends on the student and relationship with the student. Non verbal cues work well with most. Talking to them one on one does too in other cases before discipline.
MB: What would you do if a student refused to do the work you assigned?
GS: Try to find out the reasoning behind this issue and resolve it accordingly
