Shelbie Longberry teaches 10th grade biology. She decided to teach science because she has a degree in biology. To help students who perform below grade level, she uses techniques like guided notes and extra time on assignments. To keep students motivated during lessons, she uses hands-on activities. Regarding classroom discipline, she follows a multi-step process starting with telling the student to stop the disruptive behavior. “Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive,” Longberry said. If it continues, she sends the student out of the class. Then she calls home. If the behavior happens again, she issues a referral. Another call home is made. For students who refuse to do assigned work, she first asks them why and then calls their home.
Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.
