Daniel Gil, a current junior at Okeechobee High, claims that his talent is making video edits. He picked up editing during the Covid pandemic in 2022 when everyone was quarantined. He started because he was bored and had nothing to do and he was also inspired by other people who made edits. Ultimately, Gil wanted to become (and still wants to become) a photographer but editing is also a major interest of his and seems to be winning his heart. Currently, Gil is not editing anything due to his phone crashing and not being able to handle it anymore, however, once he gets a device that is well equipped and efficient for his edits, he will continue. For his long term goal, Gil wants to become a well known editor around the world. He wants to go to college for editing but would also rather learn on his own through the internet. He has entered various editing competitions set by other editors to learn and advance his skills and he found out that his favorite edits are shake edits. He has also recently been trying to collaborate with a professional editor in hopes of putting himself out more into the editing world. According to Gil, editing can get frustrating sometimes because you may have an idea of what you want inside your head but you just can’t seem to get that same idea out. However, “Even though things don’t seem to add up, always trust the process,” Daniel Gil said, which shows that no matter how frustrating things may get sometimes, he will not give up. Pretty sound advice that doesn’t just apply to editing.
