This week was Halloween, and did you know that Halloween has an interesting story on how it started? Halloween has been a popular holiday for centuries. It is celebrated in many countries around the world. The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred and the dead could return to the living world. To ward off the evil spirits they dressed in costumes and lit bonfires. Today, Halloween is celebrated with costume parties, trick-or-treating, and carving pumpkins into Jack-o-lanterns. It is a time for friends and family to have fun and enjoy each other’s company. Celebrating Halloween is an important event for our town because Okeechobee is a family. “Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday because you get to dress up and get free candy,” Taryn Cheyenne said.
