When dressing in HOSA, just like dressing anywhere in the medical field, there are rules. There is also research that suggests that a patient’s first impression of a medical provider is often based on what they’re wearing, so we should stay weary of that.
When dressing for work in the medical field, we must dress in clean, well-fitting clothes that allow for movement. As well as closed-toe, non-slip shoes that are comfortable but also supportive for us.
Accessories such as jewelry should be minimal, and safe. Although there is an exception for work-appropriate jewelry on your ear-lobes. In contrast to this, for safety purposes and to prevent bacteria, you should avoid wearing watches, scarves, or long necklaces.
These things all matter not just because of how your patient views you, but because you want to be as clean as possible. Treating patients the same and worrying about their health is a must especially when their lives are in your hands.
