Joining HOSA is a great step into being involved more in the healthcare field. But, being in the healthcare field holds its own responsibilities of making sure you are careful. Not just careful with taking care of your patients, but also being mindful of their privacy.
It is important to make sure that you respect HIPAA, which is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The goal of this act is to protect our patient’s privacy which also includes being mindful of who we speak to about their conditions/illness.
No other person should know of your patient’s privacy other than other doctor’s/nurses that take care of the same patient, or if the patient gives you permission. Just like everyone else in the world, we should respect people and what they are going through. HOSA is here to help everyone which comes with acknowledgement and respect.
