On April fourth, 2025. The parks within Okeechobee city limits are completely tobacco free! And nicotine free, as well. This was taken due to the amount of Nicotine circling around, along with the main focus of Tobacco trade, a large quantity of the population in Okeechobee in adulthood took up smoking as a form of release. Along with the highest count of litter being the cigarette butt’s that USED to litter our beautiful parks, all though some still do. The amount is little to none, but the risk of any animal or child finding and attempting to consume them is a risk we still have, SWAT is trying their best to remove this risk. The Mayor himself approved of the ordinance placed on the smoking rules in the park.
“I was chosen in 2016 to serve on the Antismoking campaign for the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. We worked with young people to show them the danger of smoking. The side effects of smoking nicotine can cause many life changing conditions. I worked with many patients that had mouth cancer at the age of 17 and 18 years old. Many young people do not know how dangerous smoking can be to them. Vaping has the same dangerous effects. My foster mother told me that inhaling nicotine or other drugs was comparable to inhaling an evil spirit. So, I was always scared to inhale something that could hurt me. Be proud of yourself for being strong enough to not follow the crowd and vape or smoke. Be stronger!” Mary Albright said.
