On September 21st, 2024, the Tobacco Free partnership of Okeechobee hosted a park clean up at the Okeechobee sports complex, or as other people know it as the Jungle Gym. they were focusing on all the litter while emphasizing Tobacco related trash/waste, as it was littered all over the park. The extremely important event highlighted the importance of keeping not only our parks completely free, but especially one that focuses on children with the playground being surrounded by cigarette butts and other tobacco products. This event was a collaboration with the Okeechobee County parks and Recreation and coincided with the reveal of the newly installed splash pad and the Family Fun day celebration.
“Smoking can lead to COPD and other lifelong illnesses. I’ve seen firsthand how it changes everything. Please don’t start, protect your future.” said Julie Connors.
